Former Swansea City goalkeeper Michel Vorm has tipped Lawrence Vigouroux for big things
Michel Vorm has praised his former side Swansea City for the signing of Lawrence Vigouroux, and has tipped the 31-year-old to improve thanks to playing regular football in the Championship.
Vorm was Swansea's first choice goalkeeper for three years between 2011 and 2014, and the former Dutch international has been impressed by what he's seen from the club's current shot-stopper.
Vigouroux has done things the hard way to become a Championship goalkeeper, and after a career which has predominantly been spent in the lower leagues, with spells in Ireland and Chile thrown in for good measure, he sealed a move to the Premier League with Burnley in the summer of 2023.
However, Vigouroux didn't make a single appearance for the Clarets, and he left for Swansea in July, becoming one of the first names on Luke Williams' teamsheet, and cementing his status as the club's number one goalkeeper.
Despite being 31, Vorm predicts that Vigouroux will continue to improve in the coming seasons and show exactly why a Premier League club moved to sign him.
Some Swansea supporters may have been sceptical when Vigouroux's signing was announced, given his age and lack of Championship experience, but he's been one of the club's better signings in recent times.
His form hasn't gone unnoticed by Vorm, and the former Swansea goalkeeper was full of praise for the club's current man between the sticks, tipping him to get better still.
Speaking exclusively to Football League World via 888sport, Vorm said: "Lawrence is a good goalkeeper. He made the big step to Burnley, but didn’t play, so now it is great for him that he is playing regularly.
"This brings confidence, match time and with more game time week in week out, he can gain the form that got him the move to the Premier League side at the time.
"So, for him, the longer the game time, the better goalkeeper he will be, as he has the talent for sure. He is doing well for Swansea, and can get better with time."
After failing to play a minute of first-team football at Burnley last season, Vigouroux's signing looked like a bit of a risk for Swansea, especially after never playing higher than League One level, but he's silenced the doubters since his arrival.
Vigouroux has played every minute of Championship football this season, a record he will likely continue for the rest of the season unless he suffers an injury or is suspended, and he's become a key player in Luke Williams' side.
Just like any other player, the 31-year-old will harbour ambitions of playing in the Premier League, and last season's frustrations at Burnley will only spur him on to achieve that with Swansea.
January has proved a testing month for Swansea, but Vigouroux has an important role in turning things around, and he'll be buoyed by Vorm's prediction that there's even better to come from him.
