Milan superstar Rafael Leao will likely start tonight’s high-stakes Serie A clash against title-bidding Napoli on the bench. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Joao Felix is the front-runner to take the 25-year-old’s place in the starting line-up.

Despite the magnitude of the task, Milan must aim for three points to stay relevant in an intense top-six race. Sergio Conceicao needs his standout performers to step up at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona and help the Rossoneri avenge a 2-0 defeat in October’s reverse fixture.

Therefore, the Portuguese manager’s decision to drop Leao from the starting XI makes little sense. However, the quicksilver forward has struggled for form and consistency this season. Before Conceicao’s arrival, he had a fallout with Paulo Fonseca.

Leao’s turmoil has led to speculation about his future. Heavily linked with a summer exit, Leao could be heading to the final stretch of his Milan career. The same goes for his partner on the left-hand side, Theo Hernandez, who should start this evening.

Meanwhile, Joao Felix may dislodge Leao as Milan bid to take three points in Naples and cut the deficit to sixth-placed Roma to two. Felix’s reintroduction may not be the only change, with Ruben Loftus-Cheek set to return to the starting line-up after recovering from a long-term injury.

Santiago Gimenez could also move to the bench amid a rough patch. As such, Tammy Abraham could lead the line for Milan in their final warm-up fixture ahead of a blockbuster Coppa Italia semi-final tie against Inter.
