Kevin Trapp hasn't been called up to the German national team since November 2023. And despite Marc-André ter Stegen's long-term injury, that doesn't look like changing any time soon.
After being left out of the squad to face Bosnia-Herzegovina and Hungary this month, a downcast Trapp said he had not been in contact with Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann.
"There is no dialogue. It is the way it is. You have to accept that. There's nothing more to say," Trapp said after Eintracht's 3-2 win over Stuttgart on Sunday.
Nagelsmann responded to the comments at a press conference on Monday, confirming that he hadn't spoken to Trapp - or any other goalkeeper for that matter - when selecting his squad for this month.
"I've read that Kevin Trapp has revealed the unbelievable truth about Julian Nagelsmann, that there is no communication. There is no communication with any goalkeeper, except in the case of a possible career end or serious injuries, like Marc-André ter Stegen or Manuel Neuer," said Nagelsmann.
"Otherwise, all nominations and rejections in the goalkeeper area are made by our goalkeeping coach Andreas Kronenberg. If I did everything myself, I wouldn't need any staff.
“Everyone does their job. I do mine and ‘Krone’ does his.”
