Charlton Athletic are yet to make a signing during the January transfer window.
Charlton Athletic have not brought in any new signings during the January transfer window so far, and Nathan Jones' latest comments suggest that any incomings before the deadline would be a bonus.
The Welshman has overseen an impressive recent run of form that has seen Charlton lose just one of their last ten games in League One, and left them just one point outside the play-off places with a game in hand on a few of the teams above them.
Not many supporters would have seen the Addicks' resurgence coming after they were beaten at home by Crawley Town just before this run started, but they now find themselves in a position where they can make a push for the top-six during the remainder of the campaign.
Most managers would be looking to add some quality to their squad in January to improve their chances of being successful during the back end of the season, but Jones' latest comments suggest that he may be content with the players that are currently at his disposal.
Following Charlton's 2-0 win over Bristol Rovers at The Valley last night, which was the Addicks' third consecutive victory, Jones spoke in an interview which was posted on the club's official X account, and he implied that he is happy with the current state of things at The Valley.
"This is a hard-working team. We're really good, really aggressive," said Jones.
"Last season was a problem with keeping clean sheets... we've kept 15 already. It shows that we have improved significantly, and if you have that foundation, then we believe with the work we do, the players we have, and the way that the crowd help, we can be a really good side.
"I'm really pleased with the group, I'm proud of the group.
"We are in a much, much stronger position now.
"We've got almost everyone fit now, and that is a wonderful place to be in.
"We're starting to really build something special. We've got great owners, we've got good people in key positions, there's unity, there's a golden thread right throughout - the academy is doing fantastically well."
At this stage of a transfer window at a club where no signings have yet been made, it would not be surprising to see a manager mention that in a post-match interview. The fact that Jones did not once touch on the fact that it is January, and considering that he praised the players, the owners, and the academy, suggests that he could be content with the options he currently has available to him.
Now that Charlton have seemingly found a way to be resolute defensively and keep clean sheets on a fairly consistent basis, they could perhaps benefit from another creative player in midfield, but any new signing at this stage would be a bonus given that Jones seems happy with the state of his squad.
The 51-year-old made it clear before the transfer window opened that his focus was on streamlining the squad rather than adding to it, and now that everything seems to be going according to plan, it is unlikely that his stance will have changed.
Tayo Edun has joined Peterborough United, while Terry Taylor and Nathan Asiimwe have been sent on loan to Northampton Town and Walsall respectively, so Jones has been successful in his attempt to trim the squad.
The likes of Kayne Ramsay, Tennai Watson, Chuks Aneke, Will Mannion and Zach Mitchell are now fit again, having all been ruled out for parts of the season so far, which means it is even more unlikely that Charlton will need to make any signings during the closing stages of the transfer window.
There is no doubt that many supporters would have liked to see at least one signing this month, but with Charlton in good form and the manager full of praise for the players currently in his squad, any new arrival at this stage would just be a welcome surprise.
