Lucas Hernandez (28) was forced off mid-way through the first half of Paris Saint-Germain’s UEFA Champions League semi-final defeat to Borussia Dortmund. The Frenchman injured his knee on Niclas Füllkrug’s goalscoring action and despite trying to continue, he was forced off before the break. L’Équipe understands that Hernandez’s participation in the Euros is in doubt.

Hours after the match, Hernandez’s knee was still too swollen to ascertain the nature of the injury. However, one thing is certain – he will play no part in the return leg of PSG’s semi-final against Borussia Dortmund next week. Instead, his recovery period is more likely to be measured in weeks.

Hernandez will undergo an MRI on his knee on Thursday but there is a fear that his knee ligaments may have been damaged. Such an injury would throw his participation in Euro 2024 into question, and according to L’Équipe, all parties are pessimistic about his chances of participating in the tournament. Didier Deschamps will name his France squad for the Euros on 16th May.
