Radja Nainggolan says that Sporting Director Monchi was to blame for his sale from Roma to Inter Milan in 2018.

The Belgian gave his thoughts to Amore Giallorosso, via FCInterNews. He said that the former Roma and current Aston Villa executive “wasn’t fair” to him in the Italian capital.

Midfielder Radja Nainggolan joined Inter Milan in the summer of 2018.

It was one of the most high profile transfers in Serie A that summer.

In the preceding seasons, Nainggolan had established himself as one of the outstanding midfielders in Serie A with his performances for Roma.

Therefore, it was something of a surprise to see the Giallorossi sanction the Belgian’s departure. And many viewed it as a major transfer coup for Inter.

In the end, Nainggolan never managed to reproduce his best form for Roma in an Inter shirt.

There were certainly flashes of the former Cagliari midfielder’s undeniable quality.

But Nainggolan was not able to show it week to week. He did not have the kind of influence in the Inter midfielder that he had done for Roma.

But that could have been partly because Nainggolan never quite felt at home at the San Siro.

The Belgian said that he “absolutely” has a strong relationship with Roma fans, even still.

“I still feel the love from them,” he said. “And it will be that way forever.”

Radja Nainggolan noted that “I only left because there was a Sporting Director [referring to Monchi, who had taken over at the Stadio Olimpico from Sevilla] who wasn’t fair to me.”

The midfielder said that Monchi “made me feel important – but then, during the summer, signed mandates on behalf of Roma, to sell me to Turkey.”
