2024 has been a fantastic year for goals in the Women’s Super League (WSL) with some outrageous acrobatic volleys and pin-point long-range shots.

Therefore, it made complete sense for 90min to rank the top 10 strikes throughout this year, with a mix of goals from the back end of the 2023/24 season, as well as the beginning of the 2024/25 campaign. Goals from teams at both ends of the table made the cut, with almost too many options to choose from.

Cornelia Kapocs’ wonder strike against Tottenham, Vivianne Miedema’s first goal upon her return from injury and Hanna Bennison’s rocket against Manchester City are just some of the goals to make the cut…

It took until February, but Everton recorded their first home win of the 2023/24 season with a 2-0 triumph over West Ham and Aurora Galli was at the heart of everything. She provided the assist for the opener before unleashing an outstanding strike for the second. The Italian international broke into space down the right flank before she cut inside onto her left foot and fired a long distance strike into the far corner. West Ham goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold, rooted to the floor, had absolutely no chance.

9. Marie Hobinger vs Tottenham Hotspur - October 2024

Liverpool secured a marginal 3-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur back in October and midfielder Marie Hobinger scored twice for the Merseyside club. The winner was a stoppage time penalty, but it was her first of the game that was the most impressive. The Reds were awarded a free-kick in a dangerous position and Hobinger stepped up to fire an effort into the top corner. It was certainly a goal of the season contender.

8. Vivianne Miedema vs Liverpool - January 2024

The hit, the strike, the moment. Vivianne Miedema’s goal against Liverpool at Prenton Park in January to put Arsenal ahead had everything. It was the Dutch international’s first goal following her return from an ACL injury, and some strike it was. Emily Fox did well to avert the challenges of numerous Liverpool players before she picked out Miedema in the middle of the park. The striker unleashed an outstanding curling effort from range, and it was too high for goalkeeper Rachael Laws to get a touch, dispute being at full stretch. The celebrations afterwards summed up just how much it meant, and it was one of the moments of the 2023/23 season.

7. Ella Toone vs Leicester City - April 2024

Ella Toone’s moment of pure magic helped Manchester United to a narrow 1-0 win over Leicester City at the King Power Stadium back in April. There was little to separate the two teams, until the latter stages of the game when the midfielder won it from the bench. Some good build up play in the middle of the park allowed former club captain Katie Zelem to find Toone in a bit of space. The 25-year-old turned to open up her body and struck a thunderbolt into the top corner from about 25 yards to clinch the victory.

6. Caitlin Foord vs Chelsea - October 2024

Arsenal’s start to their WSL clash with Chelsea in October couldn’t have gone much worse as they found themselves 2-0 down after 20 minutes. Mayra Ramirez and Sandy Baltimore had given the visitors a comfortable lead at the Emirates.Caitlin Foord gave the Gunners a lifeline on the brink of half time as she pulled one back from a difficult angle. The Australia international picked the ball up in space down the left and she was able to beat Lucy Bronze before squeezing a strike into the far corner.

5. Lauren Hemp vs Aston Villa - October 2024

Manchester City have enjoyed a strong start to the 2024/25 WSL campaign as they sit on Chelsea’s heels in the title race. In October, they came from behind to beat Aston Villa 2-1 at home to keep their hopes alive.Gabi Nunes had opened the scoring for the visitors early in the first half but Lauren Hemp stepped up with an outstanding equaliser just after the hour mark. Leila Ouahabi’s cross into the box wasn’t cleared by Villa and it fell kindly to Hemp, whose initial header took the ball away from goal. With her back to the net, she lifted a strike over her head and Sabrina D’Angelo was unable to get a touch. Hemp then rounded off an outstanding performance with the assist for Jill Roord’s winner.

4. Taylor Hinds vs Manchester City - March 2024

The visit of Manchester City towards the end of the 2023/24 season didn’t go as planned for Liverpool as they fell to a disappointing 4-1 defeat at Prenton Park. However, there were a couple Goal of the Season contenders, notably Khadija Shaw’s first strike to make it 2-0 in the first half. That strike would have probably made this list if not for an even greater goal from Liverpool’s Taylor Hinds late in the game. The defender picked the pocket of Chloe Kelly near the halfway line and she then charged into space before unleashing an effort from a little over 25 yards out.Hinds picked out the top corner perfectly and City goalkeeper Khiara Keating, at full stretch, was unable to get a hand on the ball as it rippled the back of the net. Although a mere consolation for Liverpool, it was undoubtedly one of the strikes of the season.

3. Cornelia Kapocs vs Tottenham Hotspur - October 2024

Liverpool’s summer signing Cornelia Kapocs buried an outrageous strike also in the Reds’ narrow 3-2 victory over Tottenham back in October. The Sweden international opened the scoring with 10 minutes gone.Becky Spencer’s poor clearance landed at the feet of Kapocs, and with the goalkeeper off her line, she sent an incredible distance from more than 30 yards out into the back of the net.

2. Hanna Bennison vs Manchester City - March 2024

Everton were unable to find a win against Manchester City back in March, but they ran the Manchester club extremely close with a narrow 2-1 defeat. Shaw and Hemo had given the hosts a comfortable 2-0 lead, but Hanna Bennison’s outstanding strike late in the game put the pressure on. The Sweden international was picked out by loanee Kathrine Kuhl just outside the box and she was able to turn away from Jess Park before finding the top corner with a stunning strike from range. The effort struck the crossbar before nestling perfectly into the back of the net.

1. Johanna Rytting Kaneryd vs Tottenham Hotspur - October 2024

Although not a goal from range, the finish from Johanna Rytting Kaneryd for the first of her two goals in the 5-2 home victory against Tottenham Hotspur in October was exquisite technique. The 27-year-old was picked out by a lofted cross from Millie Bright and, on the volley, she picked out the far corner with extreme precision. The Sweden international assisted Chelsea’s opening goal of the game, then scored two late on in what was undoubtedly a player of the match performance. The sublime volley, unsurprisingly, was crowned Women's Super League Goal of the Month for October.
