Real Betis defender Romain Perraud has opened up on the impact Manchester United loanee Antony has had on the club so far.
Antony sealed a loan move to Betis last month after struggling to break into Ruben Amorim’s plans at Old Trafford.
The winger will stay at Betis for the remainder of the season as he seeks to revive his struggling career.
Following a full week of training, Antony made his debut for the club last weekend, as they hosted La Liga rivals Athletic Bilbao at Estadio Benito Villamarín.
He was involved almost immediately, cutting inside from the right channel and firing an effort towards goal. Unai Simon saved Antony’s shot but could only manage to divert it into the path of a lurking Isco, who didn’t need a second invitation to tap it in from close range.
The match ended in a 2-2 draw and Antony was named the Man of the Match. Spanish newspaper El Desmarque described Antony’s performance as “electric”
Betis boss Manuel Pellegrini was full of praise for the 24-year-old, backing him to succeed in Seville.
Now, Perraud has branded the United winger as “magical.”
Perraud said [via Manchester Evening News], “Antony is a very good teammate. He played a great debut.”
“He provides a very important support for us. He has magic.”
United forked out a whooping £85million to secure Antony’s services from Ajax in the summer of 2022. He has since struggled, only managing 12 goals in 96 appearances.
It’s understood that the Red Devils’ intention is to still try and offload Antony in the summer. His contract with United expires in 2027.
