In a major development, FC Barcelona have revealed in its annual financial report for the 2023-24 financial year that Sergio Aguero has submitted a conciliation notice claiming €3 million.

The former Argentine striker alleges that the club owes him this amount following his abrupt retirement in 2021 due to a heart condition that ended his playing career prematurely.

What drove Aguero to sue Barcelona?

Agüero’s demand revolves around compensation for the termination of his employment, which he argues is owed to him under the terms of his contract after his medical retirement.

According to Mundo Deportivo, a conciliation act took place on June 21, 2024, but the matter remains unresolved.

Barcelona noted that the claim is pending to be processed by a Social Court. As of the date of the report, the club have no official record of the claim being assigned to a specific court.

Not the only settlement case

This legal dispute with Aguero is one of several financial challenges FC Barcelona are currently navigating.

Another case involves Scores Sports Management, which has filed a lawsuit seeking €10 million in fees allegedly owed for brokering the transfer of Ousmane Dembele to Paris Saint-Germain in August 2023.

The club have responded with a defence, arguing that PSG paid the €50 million buyout clause, half of which went to Dembele’s agent, Moussa Sissoko.

Additionally, Barça has reached a settlement with former player Gabriel Milito, who sought €6.9 million over claims of unfair dismissal dating back to 2011. The settlement was reached on July 18, 2024, just days before the club’s financial report was published.
