Sunderland are reportedly interested in signing Northern Ireland right-back Connor McLaughlin following his release from Millwall.
McLaughlin was let go by the south London club on Monday after making just 11 appearances last season, and has a number of Championship and League One clubs interested in his services.
But the Sunderland Echo say that the Black Cats are near the front of the queue for his signature having already made an approach over the weekend.
Owner Stewart Donald revealed on Saturday that the club were on the verge of completing a trio of deals having failed to bring in a single player so far this summer.
Manager Jack Ross is in need of a new right-sided defender having seen Adam Matthews leave.
