Barcelona’s hunt for a historic treble has been dealt a significant blow with the injury of Robert Lewandowski during the recent clash against Celta Vigo.

While the official diagnosis is still pending, early signs suggest that the Polish striker could be ruled out of the Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid and may even be a doubt for the first leg of the Champions League semi-final against Inter Milan.

On paper, losing a striker who has already bagged 40 goals this season would be considered catastrophic for most teams.

However, statistics from this season tell a surprisingly reassuring story for Hansi Flick and his staff. In fact, Barcelona have not only coped without their star striker—they have flourished.

Barcelona’s record without Lewandowski

Lewandowski has only been rested in three matches all season, and Barça recorded emphatic victories in all of them.

The first came in La Liga against Mallorca, where Barcelona cruised to a 5-1 win. It was a match that showcased the depth and versatility of Barcelona’s attacking arsenal.

In the Copa del Rey, the story was much the same. Barcelona decimated Real Betis 5-1 in the Round of 16 without Lewandowski.

Then, in the quarter-finals against Valencia, Barça once again hit five goals without reply, with Ferran Torres netting a sensational hat-trick and further goals added by Fermin Lopez and Lamine Yamal.

These results show that while Lewandowski is undoubtedly a world-class finisher, Barcelona are not a one-man team.

The emergence of young talents like Yamal, the growing influence of Ferran, and the reliable contributions from midfield have given Hansi Flick plenty of tactical options.

The team’s ability to spread the goals across multiple players is a promising sign, especially in knockout competitions where adaptability can often be the difference-maker.
