Frank admitted the better team won at Craven Cottage

Thomas Frank said he was “burning inside” after his Brentford side threw away the lead in stoppage time to lose 2-1 at Fulham.

Vitaly Janelt’s 24th-minute goal had the Bees on course for a place in the Premier League’s top half, but substitute Harry Wilson scored twice in injury time to move Fulham into the top 10 at the Bees’ expense and leave Frank’s men stunned at the last.

Frank lamented a “brutal” defeat, but admitted the televised match under the floodlights between two traditionally bottom-half teams was a great advert for the Premier League.

“I think it is [a great advert for the league],” Frank said. “I definitely think it is. It also makes sure everyone stays right until the end; I think that’s important.

“Also, it’s not like they then came back for them. We went and created a massive chance. I guess it was positive for the Premier League.

“It's of course brutal, it's the fine margins and I think it's fair to say on the day, the better team won. But when you're leading away from home in the 90th minute, if we didn't see the two goals and the big chance for us, everyone would be praising us for the defending, which I still think was fantastic.

“The blocks were good, the principles, the character, the mentality, the effort. Sometimes when you can't hit your own high level, you need to work hard. The boys did everything.

“A lot of shots, a lot of crosses, but we dealt with everything. They needed a bit of magic from Wilson. That happens. It’s brutal to lose this way, but we lost one game. Of course, I am burning inside.”
