Tyler Dibling hardly celebrated his two goals during Southampton 3-0 Swansea in the FA Cup. So, fans have naturally jumped to conclusions.
Southampton picked up their first win of the year and the first win under the Ivan Juric era at the weekend. They played in the FA Cup third round against Championship opposition Swansea and won comfortably, which should hopefully provide a morale boost.
Kamaldeen Sulemana opened the scoring for the Saints inside 20 minutes, with the lead then being added to by Tyler Dibling around 15 minutes later. In the second half, Tyler Dibling solidified the result and secured a brace for himself.
So, Tyler Dibling can definitely take a confidence boost from this match. However, he did not appear as over-the-moon as scoring a brace would usually make young players feel.
Indeed, Tyler Dibling hardly celebrated his goals. One of the top posts after the game on the Southampton subreddit was a fan asking "Why didn't Dibling celebrate after scoring?" and then elaborating by providing theories of his January transfer playing a roll in his lack of joy.
Naturally, the concern would be there. Breaking the win draught should give the players a sense of relief on paper, so to see Dibling, key to the win, not celebrating would naturally raise the eyebrows of Southampton fans.
However, the solution to this is pretty simple. Southampton should be beating Swansea. There is obviously the gap in tiers between the two sides but also the gap in the amount of investment made over the last few seasons. So, it would have been concerning if Southampton didn't beat Swansea at home.
It is also part of Tyler Dibling's character. He is one of those players who turns up and does his job, he doesn't seek credit for his hard work or good performances.
This does not mean he doesn't care about playing the game in his privileged position, it just means it takes a lot for him to be overly joyous.
Not every fan in the comments were on the side of caution, despite the poster being concerned about Tyler Dibling's future. They perhaps zoomed out from the joy of being jubilent about getting a win (naturally) and instead looked at this as a dead-cert for Southampton to win.
