Valencia have announced on Monday afternoon that defender José Gayà (29) is set to travel to Finland in order to be examined by Dr. Lasse Lempainen, who operated on him back in May.

This trip is expected to clear Gayà for a return to action following the international break, should his recovery be complete as expected.

The Finnish doctor has insisted on inspecting the player in person, to ensure his hamstring operation has progressed as intended.

The Valencia captain has already gotten back into training with his teammates and just needs this final seal of approval in order to get back into match action.

The international break offers a convenient period to get Gayà back up to speed and gives him the best possible chance of getting back to match fitness.

While it is unlikely the wing-back will jump straight back into action against Las Palmas after such an extended period on the sidelines, he may make a cameo off the bench or feature in Valencia’s match against Getafe.

Valencia coach Rúben Baraja will be thrilled to have such a key figure in their squad returning to action at a crucial time for the club’s season.
