West Brom are still on the hunt for Tony Mowbray’s successor following a dismal end to the 2024-25 season.

The Baggies fell out of the hunt for the play-offs under the 61-year-old, with a run of five defeats from six league outings resulting in the former Sunderland boss departing The Hawthorns after just three months in charge.

Since then, James Morrison was placed in interim care, overseeing their final two matches of the season against Cardiff City and Luton Town.

The disappointment sees Albion spend a fifth successive term in the second tier, and owner Shilen Patel is set to finalise who will become the new head coach as the Baggies target a promotion push back to the big time.

The two names firmly in the mix are Tottenham Hotspur coach Ryan Mason and Minnesota United manager Eric Ramsay.

Both young coaches in their 30’s, it seems this is the profile Bilkul Football Group are looking for to lead the club for the long-term, and FLW’s West Brom’s fan pundit has issued his verdict over who the Black Country outfit should appoint.

West Brom advised to pursue Eric Ramsay over Ryan Mason for head coach vacancy

Speaking to Football League World, West Brom fan pundit Callum Burgess has admitted he would want to see Eric Ramsay take charge of the Baggies over Ryan Mason, citing his early experience in the MLS as a crucial factor.

Burgess said: "I think if it was a straight choice between Ryan Mason and Eric Ramsay, then I’d probably go for the man that’s managed a team before and seems to be doing a decent job at Minnesota United.

"Ramsay coached at Chelsea and Manchester United in the past too, and in his first role in management seems to be doing a good job in America.

"If Albion are able to tempt him to join us, then I think he could be an inspired choice. He wouldn’t be the usual appointment you’d expect for West Brom.

"It’s quite left-field choosing between two managers who are so young, but with Ramsay doing the job he has done at Minnesota with nearly a 50 percent win rate and third in the MLS, then he would be a decent choice and better than what Albion fans were expecting.

"Some of us were expecting another journeyman route, but it clearly doesn’t seem to be the case."

West Brom could be in safer hands with Eric Ramsey, but an appointment looks unlikely

Out of the two candidates, Eric Ramsay looks a lot more appealing given his early experience in management.

Ryan Mason, meanwhile, is yet to get his first taste of a full-time job, and it does seem to be a big gamble for the Baggies to take on someone who is so unproven, while the expectation of the supporters will be very high.

While Ramsay would be the more suitable choice from West Brom fans’ perspectives, it appears the 33-year-old isn’t preparing for life away from the United States.

According to the Express & Star, Ramsay remains committed to Minnesota and will remain there for the time being, hinting that the Baggies will go all out in their pursuit of Ryan Mason.

Whoever takes on the job will have immense pressure on their shoulders to deliver success at The Hawthorns, and it remains intriguing to see who will be in the dugout for the opening match of the new campaign.
