Chelsea attacking midfielder Mykhailo Mudryk was at the Emirates Stadium last night to watch Arsenal take on Shakhtar Donetsk in the group phase of the Champions League.

The 23-year-old was linked with Arsenal before joining the Blues in January 2023, and he has been tipped to leave the Stamford Bridge club soon.

However, while he reportedly still has admirers at the club, Mudryk will unlikely be joining the Gunners should he leave Chelsea and was only at Emirates on Tuesday night to watch his old club and some of his former teammates.

The Ukraine international spent five years with Shakhtar before sealing an £88 million move to the Premier League, but he has weighed in with just seven goals in 66 games for the London club since then, and Arsenal fans believe their club dodged a bullet by not signing him.

Mudryk would have hoped to see his old side beat the Gunners, but the hosts ran out 1-0 winners to continue their impressive start to the 2024-25 Champions League campaign.

Gabriel Martinelli saw his low-driven strike hit the post and deflect in off the back of goalkeeper Dmytro Riznyk, handing Arsenal all crucial three points as they bounced back from their disappointing Premier League defeat to Bournemouth at Vitality Stadium last weekend.

They return to action on Sunday when they host league leaders Liverpool, and they will have to be on top form if they want to win given their injury woes.

Arsenal could be without Riccardo Calafiori and Ben White for the game after both were withdrawn last night, while Bukayo Saka and Jurrien Timber remain doubts for the match after they both missed the matchday squad against Shakhtar.

Martin Odegaard is also yet to return to action and is unavailable to face Liverpool, leaving manager Mikel Arteta with a selection headache ahead of Sunday.
