The Welsh side aren't short of people who want to get on board with what's going on at The Racecourse.

Humphrey Ker has claimed that "dozens and dozens" of billionaires have enquired about getting on board with the Wrexham project in the past four years.

If you had to pick which of the hype trains/bandwagons in the EFL were moving the fastest, you'd maybe lean towards Birmingham City, but you could easily make a case for Wrexham.

The Disney-starring, celebrity-attracting, record-setting club based in north Wales have been on some rollercoaster ride since Hollywood actors Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds bought the club for £1 from the club's supporters' trust in 2021.

The former National League outfit experienced play-off heartbreak in 2022 before taking their first step up the ladder in a long time in 2023, and they haven't stopped climbing since.

Their emphatic 3-0 win in their penultimate game of the 2024/25 season completed a third-successive promotion - the first time ever a team in the English leagues has risen up from the fifth tier to the second tier as a result of a trio of successive promotions.

Humphrey Ker makes astonishing billionaire Wrexham interest claim

In the Championship, they are expected to compete with the teams coming down from the Premier League for summer transfer targets, according to Sky Sports.

They want to buy players who will, one day, be able to perform for them in the top flight. Ker, the club's community executive, certainly believes Wrexham have a chance of getting there, but he thinks that they will need some help in order to do so.

According to the community executive, Wrexham have fielded a lot of enquiries from "multi-billionaires" over the past four years who want to hop on the bandwagon with McElhenney and Reynolds.

Asked on the High Performance Podcast about their chances of reaching the Premier League, Ker said: "I think it's very possible. But I think that's if we build our training ground, because we don't have a training ground, and we build our stand, and we renovate the stadium, and we get ourselves up to like a 20,000-seat modern-ish stadium that retains the charm, we can make that jump.

"Then what happens is Rob and Ryan go into their Rolodex, and call up one of the dozens and dozens of people that have got in touch over the past four years and been like 'Hi, I'm a multi, multi, multi-billionaire. I want to join in on this with you.'

"They would stay on, remain in their roles, but we would have someone that would help out, because, basically, getting out of the Championship and to the Premier League, you are just lighting money."

Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds can greatly benefit Wrexham, even if they downsize their ownership

As of June 2024, the Hollywood duo had personally invested £14.1 million in Wrexham. By no means a small amount of money, but nowhere near the levels needed to fund and run a Premier League side.

Their biggest benefit to the club isn't their cash, it's their public personas and likability that help to get so many big brands, like United Airlines, who are the club's front-of-shirt sponsors, on board.

Their deal with the Welsh side has brought in as much money as the average mid-table Premier League club's respective sponsor does, as per Sky Sports. The club's total commercial revenue in 2023/24 (£19.7m), when they were a League Two team, was more than what five top flight sides made.

All of this success, business wise, comes down to the people at the top and their notoriety. Even if they do part ways with some of their shares to allow someone else to propel the club forward even further, they will still offer a huge amount to Wrexham.
