The Liverpool goalkeeper came off late in the win over Crystal Palace, clearing the ball out of play and immediately going down holding his hamstring.

Alisson hit the ground in frustration and then trudged off, as third-choice goalkeeper Vitezslav Jaros was called upon for the closing stages.

Speaking after the match at Selhurst Park, Slot confirmed the injury appeared to be a significant one, with the Liverpool boss believing Alisson will miss a crucial run of fixtures.

Looking ahead to a schedule after the upcoming international break that includes matches against Arsenal, Chelsea and Bayer Leverkusen, Slot said: “Unfortunately Ali will not be with us in those matches I assume, if I saw how he walked off the pitch.”

He added at his post-match press conference: “What we do know is if somebody walks off the pitch like that, I don't expect him to see him in the Brazil squad or playing the first game back after the international break.

Virgil van Dijk said of his team-mate: “Alisson's injury doesn't look good. It looks like a hamstring injury which was already bothering him, and from which he recovered."

With Caoimhin Kelleher missing out on the Liverpool squad at Selhurst Park due to illness, it was Jaros who made the bench and then had to do his bit in seeing out the match.

It was a debut appearance for the Czech goalkeeper, after various loan spells in recent seasons at clubs including St Patrick's Athletic and Stockport County, and his manager was full of praise.

Slot said of Jaros’ performance: “Really good. He had a good season and he won the league and cup with the team [Sturm Graz] in Austria [last season].

"He wanted to go [back this season] and have playing time. We said at a club like this we need a good third goalkeeper as well.

"It was a nice moment for him to make his debut for Liverpool."
