Gabriele Martinelli has been talking ahead of Wednesday night’s match between Newcastle United and Arsenal.
The Gunners winger hit the post in the first leg, before Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon both hit the back of the net, to give United a 2-0 lead at the halfway stage.
Arsenal made it 14 Premier League matches unbeaten on Sunday, defeating Manchester City 5-1.
The last time Mikel Arteta and his players lost in the league was at…St James’ Park on 2 November 2024, Eddie Howe’s side winning 1-0.
Gabriele Martinelli talking ahead of Newcastle v Arsenal on Wednesday night:
“It is hard to play at St James’ Park.
“They are a really good side.
“But we have full confidence in our squad and we trust ourselves.
“It is going to be another battle there.
“We know how difficult it is to play there.
“But, as I said, we have an amazing team and we trust ourselves.
“We are going to go there to win the game.
“We know our qualities. It is not because we lost 2-0 here in the last game, we are going to go there just to play now.
“We are going to go there to win the game and to score three, four, five.
“Let’s see, the game is going to be really hard, for sure.
“But we are going to try our best to win the game.”
Nobody at the Newcastle United end of things is complacent.
However, plenty of positive stats in NUFC’s favour, as well as of course a 2-0 lead from the first leg.
The last seven times the two teams have met, Newcastle have won four, one draw, two Arsenal wins.
Newcastle keeping a clean sheet in five of those last seven meetings.
At St James’ Park, Arsenal have won once and lost the other three in their last four visits, United keeping a clean sheet in each of the three home wins under Eddie Howe against Mikel Arteta and his team.
