Borussia Dortmund have reached an agreement with Renato Veiga’s representatives over a move to the club from Chelsea.
Veiga has expressed a desire to leave Chelsea after struggling for regular first-team football since his summer arrival from FC Basel.
The 21-year-old has started just once in the Premier League, while he has been unhappy at playing outside of his preferred centre-back role.
Veiga has requested to explore his options this month and has reached an agreement with Dortmund. The German side and Veiga have reached terms over a contract with the Portugal international open to the move.
Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Chelsea are demanding a fee of around €30m (£25.2m) for the player, who arrived from Switzerland for just £12m in the summer window. Dortmund will not look to agree a fee with the West Londoners.
Enzo Maresca discussed Veiga’s future this week. The Chelsea boss said Veiga’s versatility has helped him break into the national team after the defender made his Portugal debut in October.
“He’s played well in different positions for us,” Maresca said.
“I said to him, in terms of playing in the position he is playing that gives him the chance to join the national team and to get speculation around him.”
Veiga is one of several Chelsea players who could leave this month in search of minutes. Ben Chilwell, Cesare Casadei and Carney Chukwuemeka are expected to move on, while Christopher Nkunku has also been linked with an exit.
Chelsea are understood to be considering signing a centre-back this month, due to injuries to Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile. That interest is likely to accelerate should Veiga depart.
