Josko Gvardiol says City showed the patience needed to grind out a late 2-1 victory against Wolves.

The Blues were 1-1 heading into the dying embers of this tight, tense Premier League clash at Molineux before John Stones popped up with a last-gasp winner much to the delight of the travelling sky blue faithful.

Gvardiol says the team’s drive and determination to pick up the three points at the end was vital.

“The good thing is we have our teammates,” said Gvardiol, City’s other goalscorer on the day.

“We are here for each other and it’s obvious when someone defends like that, really deep, you need patience and to pass the ball quickly from one side to another.

“When you join this club it becomes part of you and that's what we need.

“We also had some games when we missed that but today we had it and that's why we won.

“Mine was important to get back in the game and we were trying to score one more before going back to the dressing room at half-time. To be fair, 1-1 is not that bad [at half-time] and we knew that in the second half we had to give everything.

“We were fighting for 45 minutes which is not easy when the opponent is defending really deep but that's why we have John Stones and I'm really happy for him.”

Despite helping condemn bottom-placed Wolves to their seventh defeat in eight games to open the 2024/25 season, Gvardiol did pay them respect for the way they stuck in right to the death.

“To be fair before we conceded a goal I had the feeling we controlled the game,” he added.

“They are so quick and good in transitions and I don't know how Wolves had the energy to defend for a few minutes then sprint forwards and get back.

“We knew we had to be careful and aware of their qualities.

“But in the end we won 2-1 and we're happy.”
