With a summer of uncertainty seemingly ahead for Wednesday, FLW takes at the current transfer values of their squad.

It looks set to be yet another summer of uncertainty at Sheffield Wednesday.

Danny Rohl led the Owls to a 12th-placed finish – their highest finish in the pyramid for the last six years, but recent off-field events have marred what has been a largely promising season for the team.

Rohl’s own future is up in the air, with the young German boss having been mooted for several jobs both in England and in Germany. Meanwhile, controversial owner Dejphon Chansiri is once again facing pressure to sell the club, amid interest from an American consortium.

With Rohl expected to move away from Hillsborough this summer, and the club’s ownership situation as precarious as ever, it could also be a summer of upheaval within the Wednesday squad.

With that in mind, FLW takes a look at some of the Owls players who could attract interest from other clubs, as well as how much they are currently valued at (according to Transfermarkt).

The current transfer valuations of every Sheffield Wednesday player

Although several of Wednesday’s key players this season were loanees, there are still several players in the squad who have the potential to command substantial fees if they do move on in the future.

The likes of Di’Shon Bernard, Djeidi Gassama and Anthony Musaba have all been crucial players for the S6 outfit this term, and with the factor of age being firmly on their side, are likely worth more to Wednesday than Transfermarkt suggests at this moment in time.

On the other hand, the likes of Barry Bannan and Michael Smith are hugely valuable players to Wednesday specifically, but will carry little weight in terms of the transfer market due to their age.

Four players who could leave Hillsborough this summer

Josh Windass

Windass has been the subject of plenty of transfer speculation over the last few weeks, regardless of the fact that the club exercised their option of extending his current contract for another year.

La Liga outfit Valencia are reportedly interested in his services. The Spanish giants are led by Carlos Corberan, who is understood to have made an attempt to sign Windass during his tenure as West Brom boss.

Both Windass and his father have made suggestions that this would be his final season as a Wednesday player, which suggests that he isn’t particularly confident in Wednesday’s long-term future, regardless of the extension being triggered.

The forward has been a fantastic servant for Wednesday across his five-and-a-half years with the club, and produced his best ever league goalscoring season for them this term, but if his head is turned there could be little point in keeping him around.

Djeidi Gassama

Gassama was one of the standout performers for Rohl’s side this season, and Wednesday are sure to face plenty of interest in him, given the potential that he has.

The 21-year-old has been a revelation since joining the club from PSG in the summer of 2023, and finished the campaign with seven league goals and one assist this time around.

Only Windass and Smith found the back of the net on more occasions than the winger, who has just one season remaining on his current contract.

Wednesday must take decisive action to tie down the Frenchman to a longer contract soon, or they could risk losing a player who is rapidly developing into a very saleable asset.

Pierce Charles

Having established himself ahead of James Beadle as Rohl’s first-choice ‘keeper towards the end of the season, there are understandably very high hopes for Pierce Charles.

The younger brother of Southampton loanee Shea, the 19-year-old has already received senior international honours for Northern Ireland and could find himself as the Owls’ permanent number one to start next season.

However, with a ceiling as high as Charles’, it’s only natural that some of the country’s top clubs are taking an interest, despite him still being in the early stages of his development.

Wednesday are understood to be bracing themselves for bids, and with both Premier League and German sides interested, they could face a battle to keep their young star.

Ike Ugbo

On the other hand, however, plenty around Hillsborough will surely be hoping that Ike Ugbo departs the club this summer.

The frontman completed a £2.5m move from French side Troyes last summer, after a prolific loan spell in 2023/24 saw him net seven goals in just 18 games for the Owls.

But, after failing to register a single goal contribution in any of his 34 Championship appearances this term, there has been a growing belief that the Canadian forward isn’t good enough for Wednesday.
