Leicester City may stick with Ruud van Nistelrooy in call that's dividing fans

It will be a very tough sell for most Leicester fans. An already bad situation has only gotten worse since Ruud van Nistelrooy took over for Steve Cooper. Even so, the club has yet to determine if the City boss will remain on once the Premier League concludes for the season.

It is a results-based business. And on the accord, RvN has fallen well short. Not only have the losses piled up, but the needed fight to even show a somewhat competitive side has been completely absent during this particularly rough spell. For that reason, it's hard to find too many defenders of the Dutchman.

Although the LCFC decision-makers themselves appear to be granting some leeway for the time being. It would be far from a popular decision, but City may retain the current manager into 2025-2026. It comes down to one main known factor. The Foxes were already very bad anyway, well before van Nistelrooy stepped foot in the East Midlands.

The competitive nature in matches is missing, and that is something that RvN can control, or at least have an effect on. Even with that, it is safe to say that City would have been in more or less the same position regardless. This simply isn't an EPL side at the moment. There will be a lot of changes forthcoming. Even in the worst possibilities in terms of players leaving, LCFC still should be able to at least be competitive in the Championship.

Only justification for keeping RvN at Leicester

Not needing to take over in the middle of the campaign and instead getting a chance to develop the side during preseason camp affords a more complete judgment of how RvN will perform in charge. He had a nice stint in the interim role at Manchester United, and things looked promising when he first took over at King Power Stadium.

If he is retained, it will be in the hopes of seeing more of what had supporters excited when he first arrived in the first place. His staying on will be the club betting that from the disarray and losing situation, it's the long-time Netherlands international who can lean on his experience and learn from his mistakes from the course of matches that supporters have regrettably witnessed.
