Pep Guardiola had made the Netherlands international a top target and negotiations are underway between the two teams.
𝗕𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗚: Per @FabrizioRomano, Man City have submitted a €60M to AC Milan for Tijjani Reijnders 🇳🇱✍️–
City submitted their first bid for Reijnders on Friday, though Fabrizio Romano has claimed that the €60m (£50.4m) offer falls short of Milan’s valuation. The Italian side are reluctant to lose Reijnders but a failure to secure European qualification weakens their position.
Reijnders was an impressive performer in an otherwise disappointing season for Milan, who ended the campaign eighth in Serie A. The Dutchman scored 10 league goals and added four assists and was named Serie A’s Best Midfielder for the 2024/25 campaign.
City want to bring in the 26-year-old to refresh an ageing midfield. Kevin De Bruyne will leave when his contract expires this summer and is expected to sign for Napoli. There are also doubts over the immediate futures of Ilkay Gundogan, who turns 35 in October, and Bernardo Silva.
The Citizens are understood to want to complete the bulk of their summer business before this summer’s Club World Cup, which kicks off on June 15th. City face Moroccan outfit Wydad AC in their opening fixture of the tournament on June 18th.
In addition to Reijnders, City are also interested in signing Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White and Lyon winger Rayan Cherki. The Blues are also monitoring Club Brugge midfielder Ardon Jashari, but face competition from Bundesliga sides including Borussia Dortmund.
