Ruben Amorim has addressed reports that Bruno Fernandes has been the subject of a record transfer bid from Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal.
It has been claimed that Fernandes has been aware of interest from Saudi Pro League clubs for some time, and now Al-Hilal are ready to test the waters with a fee well in excess of £115million. Al-Hilal hope to reunite Fernandes with Portugal team-mates Joao Cancelo and Ruben Neves.
The reported sums would mark a record sale in British football, exceeding the fee Chelsea paid for Moises Caicedo three years ago, and would also come with an eye-watering salary for Fernandes worth more than £1m a week.
Journalist Ben Jacobs has reported that Fernandes, who still has two years to run on his United contract, has not responded to any advances.
Asked about the transfer rumours on Wednesday, Amorim was not surprised. He told reporters: "It is easy to understand [the transfer speculation], not just because of the numbers but the way he plays.
"He is a top player and we need to top players. He is a leader, the captain.
"It is natural that people want Bruno, but we want to keep him. He is one of the top players of the world."
