Lazio coach Marco Baroni expressed his pride in his team’s courageous performance against Atalanta on Saturday night.

Marco Baroni Proud with Lazio Display

The Biancocelesti had suffered a heavy defeat in their previous home outing against Inter Milan, but managed to bounce back with a convincing display against Gian Piero Gasperini’s men. They had the lead for the bulk of the match thanks to Fisayo Dele-Bashiru’s opener, but a later equalizer from Marco Brescianini cost them the win. Nevertheless, Baroni remains pleased with the performance as he revealed in his post-match interview (via La Lazio Siamo Noi).

A great performance, but I had no doubts. This is our Lazio, a team that gives and dedicates itself in difficult moments. This is the most important aspect that the fans appreciate, I’m proud of my players. They gave it their all and thus I’m happy. This is the right path, we must continue to work with commitment and dedication. We had two great chances in the second half, but that’s normal. What concerns me the most is maintaining our identity in these matches against the top sides.

Ready for the Big Derby

The 61-year-old then turned his attention to next weekend’s Derby della Capitale which pits them against their blood rivals Roma. The manager realizes that this fixture is the most important from the fans’ perspective.

We will be ready for Derby, this is not any match but it is THE match. We know it and we will be ready for it.

Updates on Injured Lazio Trio

However, Lazio are unlikely to regain the services of any of their three injured players in time for the big showdown.

I don’t know yet. I don’t think [Matias] Vecino, [Tijjani] Noslin and Pedro will recover, but we’ll see. At the moment, I’m happy with the lads who aren’t afraid of anything in difficult situations.

On Fisayo-Dele-Bashiru

Finally, Baroni applauded Dele-Bashiru who’s beginning to show his worth after an adaptation period.

He’s evolving. When these young lads come to Italy, they find themselves in the most complicated football there is, a different culture and a different language. It takes a period of adaptation. Fisayo is a player who has a lot of energy and will give us a big hand.
