The Mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala has stated that the new San Siro project will try to improve the local area, but admitted AC Milan might choose to move elsewhere.

On Tuesday morning a meeting took place in Rome involving delegates from the Milan and Inter management plus council and government figures. Reports emerged afterwards stating that it could lead the clubs to submit an expression of interest regarding the construction of a shared stadium again in the San Siro area.

Milan president Paolo Scaroni has since stated that San Donato remains the number one priority for the Rossoneri, after the Mayor of that particular area requested an urgent meeting, no doubt having been left confused by the contradicting things circulating in the press.

Sala has broken his silence regarding the stadium plans of the two clubs after the meeting a couple of days ago and his comments were relayed by ANSA.

“I say two things to the residents: one that we will try to do everything to improve the area, bring more greenery and no more chaos and traffic and also that the funds that the council will take from the sale of the stadium and the area to the teams we will put to improve the public housing that is decidedly lacking there,” he said (via Radio Rossonera).

“The current San Siro stadium? It will not be dedicated to events that will bring people, concerts or other matches, so in part it will have to be preserved, we will work to do what the teams need trying to preserve the historical vestiges.

“Certain statements are also to be understood, Milan have already made an investment in San Donato. I have nothing else to add until, as I hope, something happens that will be the turning point, and that is that the teams make an expression of interest. With the evaluation of the Revenue Agency we are almost there.”

Further developments on the issue of the new stadium are expected from the two clubs after the decision to purchase the area surrounding and including the old stadium.
