AC Milan are in a perilous position as things stand, and unless changes are made, it will only get worse.

Football can be as simple or difficult as you make it, and at present, Milan are making it very difficult. It is easy to say this after losing a game like the Coppa Italia, of course. However, the pot has been close to boiling over for sometime and it did last night.

Protests increased in volume and it feels like the scales have finally tipped too far to turn back if things continue on this path.

Almost everyone thinks the same, and whilst fears were present about no changes with a win, there are doubts about anything changing despite last night’s performance after Furlani once again stated that conversations would take place at the end of the season.

Milan News, this afternoon, have stated that this is the third consecutive ‘disastrous’ ending to a season for the Rossoneri – referencing the Champions League defeat to Inter, the loss to Roma and last night’s events.

A tragedy in itself, however, not even the biggest one concerning the club. Under RedBird the ‘American Milan’ has ‘lost its soul, identity and belonging’ – harrowing words that feel beyond true, as frustrating as that may be.

Gerry Cardinale has not let his presence be felt in almost a year, and this shows. Look at Bologna, the report pleads, whose owner was shown several times last night in attendance, whilst the cameras panned between the members of the inefficient Milanese management.

Projects cannot be judged in their infancy, but after three years, the signs are not positive under RedBird, and it can only be deemed a failure so far. In sport, the only thing that matters is to win, and it seems the owners have forgotten that, prioritising cash flow and spreadsheets.

Change is needed, quickly. Milan at this point are unrecognisable and the situation will only further deteriorate without urgent aid.
