Rob McElhenney praised the Wrexham fans for their role in the win over Rotherham United.

Wrexham co-owner Rob McElhenney heaped praise on the fans as another packed out away end watched Phil Parkinson’s side beat Rotherham United on Saturday.

The Red Dragons have been on a remarkable journey since McElhenney and fellow Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds bought the club, with the Welsh outfit now in League One.

Parkinson’s men have settled to life in the third tier very well, and they continued their impressive form with a victory over the Millers thanks to a Paul Mullin goal.

Mullin’s goal came in the first minute of the contest, so Wrexham had to battle to pick up the points, and whilst they had opportunities to extend their lead, they were also put under pressure in spells by Steve Evans’ side.

But, it was a real collective effort from the players to record a clean sheet, and they were helped by the vociferous away end, with just under 2,500 fans helping the side to a crucial three points.

And, McElhenney was keen to mention those who had made the trip, as he reacted to the win on social media.

“We are LOUD on the road. Sounded like a home game. Up the Town!”

Wrexham must continue to build momentum

There’s a feel-good factor around Wrexham right now, and all connected to the club deserve credit for that.

We know that Wrexham had the resources to blow their rivals out of the water in previous years, and whilst they still have a big budget by League One standards, they aren’t the biggest spenders, and they were also playing catch-up following successive promotions.

But, they have been excellent in the opening months, and there is a real bond between the fans and the players, and it certainly helps them get results.

As McElhenney says, it was a noisy travelling support at Rotherham, and the players will say that it did help them as they fought for a huge three points.

Wrexham’s home record has been perfect so far this season, with the Racecourse Ground a very difficult place for opponents to visit, with the fans again playing a part in that.

So, it’s a great time to be a Wrexham supporter, and they will be dreaming about what this campaign can bring.

Wrexham will believe promotion is a possibility

Following on from that, there will be a belief that the side can record another promotion, which would be a fantastic achievement.

There will be no worry about Parkinson or the players getting carried away, as there is a lot of experience among the staff and in the dressing room, so they will be aware of how quickly things can change in football.

As well as that, League One is ridiculously competitive this season, and there are some very good sides in the mix to go up.

But, with almost a quarter of the season played, Wrexham sit second, and they will feel that there is more to come.
