It’s the first of February – January transfer windows don’t get much more last minute than this. But Chelsea are actually looking like they’re going to get into gear and do some business in the next 48 hours.
A few rumours have cropped up this morning, and as always Fabrizio Romano is the mean spearheading them. He’s today written that there have been two bids this week for young defender Aaron Anselmino.
Marseille have made an offer for the young centre back on loan until the summer, while Borussia Dortmund have “also asked for Anselmino this week as an option.”
Chelsea don’t seem to have made their mind up on whether they want to let him go or not – Marseille are apparently still waiting for a reply one way or the other on their bid. But ultimately it seems sensible to let him start picking up some appearances somewhere to continue his development.
Aaron Anselmino signs for Chelsea!
Anselmino was bought in the summer but left at Boca Juniors on loan. His recall in January was the first move the Blues made, and he’s had a full month training with Enzo Maresca and becoming familiar with Cobham and his new teammates. There was some consideration of keeping him as a squad option, but the subsequent recall of Trevoh Chalobah made that feel unlikely, and now a loan is clearly the best option to keep him developing.
Both Dortmund and Marseille would be great options – if they can guarantee him to play. That would be aiming quite high considering Anselmino doesn’t even 25 senior career appearances to his name and is still just 19. But if we get assurances he’ll be a regular, either team looks great as an introduction to European football.
