Slot to miss Newcastle and Southampton games due to touchline ban | OneFootball

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has been given a two-match touchline ban and fined £70,000 following his red card at the end of the Merseyside derby earlier this month.

The punishment means Slot will be absent for Wednesday’s Premier League clash with Newcastle United at Anfield and the home fixture against Southampton on March 8.

However, he will be allowed in the dugout for Liverpool’s Champions League last-16 first leg against Paris Saint-Germain three days earlier.

Slot was dismissed after confronting referee Michael Oliver following the dramatic 2-2 draw at Goodison Park on February 12.

The Football Association charged him with acting improperly and using abusive language towards Oliver and an assistant referee, which the Liverpool manager accepted.

Assistant coach Sipke Hulshoff was also shown a red card after the final whistle and has been handed a two-game suspension alongside a £7,000 fine.

The FA stated that Hulshoff acted improperly and used insulting language towards a match official after being sent off.

The match ended in chaos when Everton’s James Tarkowski scored a 98th-minute equaliser, prompting home fans to invade the pitch in celebration.

Liverpool believed the goal should have been disallowed for a push on Ibrahima Konate in the build-up, and tensions escalated at full-time.

Slot shook hands with Oliver before exchanging words with him, leading to his immediate dismissal. He later admitted he let his emotions get the better of him and said he regretted his actions.

Liverpool and Everton have also been fined for failing to control their players after the final whistle.

The FA imposed a £65,000 fine on Liverpool and a £50,000 fine on Everton after both clubs admitted to the charge.

Midfielder Curtis Jones was also sent off post-match for a second yellow card after clashing with Everton’s Abdoulaye Doucoure, who was similarly dismissed. Both players served one-match bans.

Slot will return to the touchline after the international break for Liverpool’s League Cup final against Newcastle United on March 16.

He previously served a touchline ban for the quarter-final win over Southampton in December after accumulating three yellow cards.

Liverpool, who sit 11 points clear at the top of the Premier League, host Everton in the return fixture at Anfield on April 2.
