Reds go marching on

Scorers: Salah (PEN) 28â€Č, Jones 52â€Č; Jackson 49â€Č

Curtis Jones netted a second half winner to see Liverpool beat Chelsea 2-1 and reclaim their place at the top of the Premier League.

With Manchester City securing a late win at Wolves, Liverpool came into this clash knowing that they needed three points to re-take the lead at the top of the Premier League.

The west London side were lucky to have 11 men on the pitch after just a few minutes as Tosin Adarabioyo pulled down Diogo Jota but the challenge was deemed to only be worthy of a yellow card.

Liverpool then had a shout for a penalty as Mohamed Salah was tackled inside the area but the referee waved those calls away.

The Reds eventually did get a spot kick just moments later as Curtis Jones was fouled by Levi Colwill and Salah finished from the spot.

The hosts thought they had doubled their lead just moments later but Cody Gakpo’s tap in was ruled out for offside.

Right on the stroke of half time Liverpool had another penalty after Jones was once again fouled in the area, however the VAR overturned the call with Roberto Sanchez deemed to have touched the ball.

Into the second half and within minutes Nicolas Jackson had the ball in the back of the net as the striker raced in and finished calmly.

They were level for all of two minutes though as Curtis Jones waltzed into the area and netted what proved to be the winner.

Stones rocks Molineux to its core

Scorers: Strand Larsen 8â€Č; Gvardiol 34â€Č, Stones 90+5â€Č

A controversial 95th minute header from John Stones saw Manchester City beat Wolves 2-1 on Sunday.

Pep Guardiola’s side travelled to Molineux as the only unbeaten side left in the Premier League. Wolves meanwhile were joint-bottom having failed to win any of their first seven games.

But amazingly it was Wolves who took the lead after only eight minutes as JĂžrgen Strand Larsen found space in the box and finished with aplomb.

City responded well but Jose Sa was equal to a smart effort from Bernardo Silva, pushing the midfielder’s effort around the post.

Eventually their pressure told as JoĆĄko Gvardiol curled in an effort from 25 yards that nestled in the top corner.

Into the second half and City continued with their dominance of the ball but struggled to break down Wolves’ dogged defence.

The Black Country club had a glorious chance to re-take the lead just after the hour mark but Strand Larsen couldn’t quite get on the end of Carlos Forbs’ cross.

Jack Grealish came on with 20 minutes to go and looked dangerous every time he got the ball but the England international was another man couldn’t unpick the Wolves’ defensive lock.

City had one last chance to find a winner and did so with the last kick of the game as John Stones headed home. The referee went to the screen to judge an offside, but decided it was a legal goal, much to the home side’s fury.

Monday Night Football this week comes from the City Ground as Nottingham Forest host Crystal Palace.
