Inter Milan goalkeeper Josep Martinez was impressive in tonight’s Coppa Italia draw against bitter rivals AC Milan.
Speaking to Sport Mediaset via FCInterNews, the Spaniard confirmed Inter’s ambition to lock down a place in the grand final.
Head coach Simone Inzaghi handed the former Genoa goalkeeper a rare chance to start ahead of Yann Sommer.
That proved a perfect choice, as Martinez had an outstanding game.
Indeed, the 26-year-old opened the match with a highlight moment to deny Rafael Leao with a superb diving save.
Unfortunately, Tammy Abraham gave him no chance early in the second half.
The Roma loanee struck the ball into the bottom corner with laser-sharp precision.
Though Martinez only had to make three saves, he brimmed with confidence.
Furthermore, his calmness on the ball was eye-catching, showing Inzaghi can rely on him when needed.
Meanwhile, Hakan Calhanoglu restored parity 20 minutes after Milan’s opener with a mid-range rocket missile.

Calhanoglu’s goal blew this mouth-watering semi-final tie wide open ahead of the return leg on April 23.
“In the end, we knew they were strong in transitions,” Martinez admitted after the game.
“We tried to stay close to the players left behind, but we didn’t start the second half well and conceded a goal.”
Asked how much he would like to play in the final, Martinez replied: “A lot. Not just me, but all the guys.
“As Calha said, we are chasing important goals. Now, we have Parma, and then we’ll think about the second leg.”
Inter will take on Parma in Serie A next weekend before departing for Munich to resume their Champions League campaign.
Indeed, Inzaghi’s charges will take on Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena next Tuesday in the first leg of their quarter-final tie.
