Harrison looks set to return to Elland Road in the summer when his Toffees loan expires

Everton are reportedly set to decide against signing on-loan Leeds United winger Jack Harrison permanently this summer when his two-season spell at Goodison Park comes to an end.

Harrison first joined the Whites from Manchester City for the 2018/2019 campaign, and his Elland Road switch was made permanent in 2021 after three successive seasons on loan, during which time he helped the club reach the top-flight and consolidate themselves under Marcelo Bielsa.

The wide forward was a part of the Leeds side that was relegated back to the second-tier in 2023, and so made the move to the Toffees last summer, before going on to feature 29 times in the Premier League last season.

Harrison rejoined Everton on loan in June after a decent first spell, and while he has been a constant fixture in matchday squads under both Sean Dyche and David Moyes this term, he does not look set to make a full-time switch to Merseyside ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

Harrison was an important part of Dyche's squad last term as Everton avoided relegation with ease, but his fortunes have been a lot more mixed so far this season, yet the Toffees did decide against terminating his loan in the recent January window despite rumours of a possible early return to Elland Road in the new year.

He has started in each of the club's last four Premier League outings, during which time they have gone unbeaten, but Football Insider have now claimed that the 28-year-old might not have a long-term future at the club as they make the move to the new Everton Stadium for next season.

Their transfer correspondent, Pete O'Rourke, has revealed on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast that boss Moyes wants to inject more creativity and width into his side in the summer, and so they are unlikely to sign Harrison on a full-time deal from the Whites.

A permanent move for fellow Toffees loan man Jesper Lindstrom has instead been reported as the more likely transfer to happen of the two.

Jack Harrison seemingly has no future at Leeds after troublesome exit

This news will be tough to take for former England youth international Harrison, as a possible return to Leeds is something that he will not want to happen due to the nature of his departure last year.

The 28-year-old was once a fan-favourite at Elland Road, after playing such a key part in their long-awaited promotion to the Premier League and subsequent success in the top-flight, but his bridges were burned with Whites fans after he was quick to jump ship following relegation despite signing a new deal, and his mother publicly admitted that she hoped his loan deal at Everton would be made permanent.

He has not played for the club at all since they returned to the Championship, despite penning a five-year deal in 2023, and so the club have now moved on, with the likes of Willy Gnonto, Dan James, Manor Solomon and Largie Ramazani all featuring out wide for Daniel Farke in their promotion push.

Solomon has been mooted as a potential permanent signing for the Whites if they do return to the Premier League this season, which looks likely with Farke's side currently top of the second-tier and seven points clear of third-placed Burnley.

With that in mind, Harrison would likely be well down the pecking order if he was forced to return to Elland Road in the summer. A reprieve in the Leeds squad seems highly unlikely, but not impossible if he is viewed as a helpful option by Farke.

Whites CEO Angus Kinnear possibly moving to take up the same post with the Toffees in the summer will also be an interesting development that could have implications on any deal for the 28-year-old.

His main focus will now be on his campaign at Goodison Park, where Everton will look to keep impressing in the Premier League under David Moyes, but what will happen regarding his future after the end of the season still remains to be seen.
