Manchester United appear set to stick with Ruben Amorim going into the summer transfer window.

The Red Devils will not look to be overly reactive as far as the coaching staff are concerned.

This follows Tottenham’s 1-0 victory over the Portuguese head coach’s men, a result that sees Spurs break a 17-year goal drought.

United’s last piece of silverware came under Erik ten Hag, with the 55-year-old lifting the FA Cup in May 2024.

Amorim graciously confirmed he would leave Manchester United without a fuss if he were no longer deemed the right fit for the club.

The former Sporting Lisbon head coach admitted his side’s latest performance in the Europa League fell short of expectations, as the club missed out on an indirect route back into Champions League football.

Despite this, Ben Jacobs reports on X (formerly Twitter) that United’s board continue to back the 40-year-old.

Furthermore, it’s understood that his future in Manchester was never contingent on success in the competition.

With that in mind, we can probably fully discredit reports suggesting Inzaghi is being looked at as a potential Amorim replacement.

Amorim needs a full season

Look, it would be disingenuous of us to suggest Amorim hasn’t made mistakes this season.

The final alone is certainly littered with errors, chief amongst them all being the decision not to start Alejandro Garnacho in Bilbao.

But likewise, we need to remember that the Manchester United head coach is, by and large, working with Ten Hag’s squad.

It’s a wildly different system he’s trying to implement with players that just aren’t the right fit. Could we get more out of the squad with a comparatively more traditional playing style? Perhaps.

However, if the goal is to move in a tangibly different direction, we need to show Ruben Amorim faith in the summer and back him with a serious overhaul.

Give him at least some players who can make his system work and a proper pre-season to carry out his plans.
