On the eve of the UEFA Champions League knockout phase play-off first leg clash away to Stade Brestois 29, this Tuesday 11 February at 18:45 CET at the Stade de Roudourou in Guingamp, Paris Saint-Germain defender Nuno Mendes fielded questions at the pre-match press conference:

Current form

“It’s true that the team is in good form at the moment. I think the coach is doing a great job at getting the best out of every player. He knows exactly what he has to do and so do we.”

The first leg knockout phase play-off

“Matches against Brest are never easy. They have very good players and that is why we will have to be at our best. We will try and dominate possession and play in the opposition half as much as possible, like we do every game. The pitch isn’t very good, so that is a factor we have to take into account and adapt to.”

The stakes

“We know that this is the Champions League, and that in this competition, every little detail counts. If we give Brest the opportunity to play their game, we know that they can hurt us.”

“Obviously, I’m very happy for him, he’s our captain. It’s a source of great to pride to play alongside him. To play so many matches in this competition is a dream. Tomorrow we will try and give him a win to celebrate.”

“Everyone has a role on the pitch. I try and do what the coach asks of me, the best I can. For me personally, I’m very happy with my role. I love to attack, but first, I have to defend.”
