Strasbourg manager Liam Rosenior’s latest comments on Djordje Petrovic have compounded Chelsea’s issues and highlighted mistakes made last summer.
Chelsea slumped to a 3-1 defeat against Manchester City at the Etihad on Saturday afternoon, with Robert Sanchez once again making a costly mistake to allow Erling Haaland to score.
The defeat means it’s now just one win in the last seven league matches for Enzo Maresca, and the Blues have dropped to sixth in the table.
Sanchez is having a difficult season and his error against City with his fifth of the campaign leading to a goal, which is a league high.
Maresca has consistently defended the Spain international in public during the season, but he did hint Sanchez could be replaced next season.
Chelsea took the decision to stick with Sanchez as number one, whilst they also signed Filip Jorgensen from Villarreal, although the Dane hasn’t had much of an opportunity to show what he can do.

Sanchez was outperformed by Petrovic last season with the Serb putting in a series of impressive performances, but the decision was taken to send him on loan to Strasbourg.
The 25-year-old has been quietly impressing in France and he put in a brilliant performance as Strasbourg beat Lille 2-1 on Saturday.
Rosenior was full of praise for Petrovic after the game and his comments highlight the mess Chelsea have made of their goalkeeping situation.
“We have seen huge progress from Petro,” he said in words cited on X.com.
“He is a world-class goalkeeper. We see it every day and it is still paying off today.”

Sanchez was booed by the Chelsea supporters against City and it will be interesting to see what decision is taken for the game against West Ham on 3rd February.
Ultimately Chelsea can’t afford to continue with Sanchez in goal and supporters will have to hope Maresca comes to his senses and makes the right decision.
