Aston Villa are weighing up a bid to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Matheus Cunha in the January transfer window.

The Villans are looking to sign a new striker before Monday’s transfer deadline, and they have earmarked the 25-year-old as a potential option, as per The Daily Mail.

The Villans are adamant that they will not sell Ollie Watkins to Arsenal in the winter market, and now are focussing on adding one more striker to their ranks.

Cunha joined Wolves from Atletico Madrid for a fee of around £40m, and has scored 24 goals and provided 11 assists in 71 games.

This season, he has been in great form for Wolves, scoring 10 goals and providing four assists in the Premier League. Losing him now would be a massive blow for Wolves, who are fighting for survival.

Cunha is a versatile attacker who can play as a right and left midfielder, in the number ten role and also as a striker.

However, it won’t be easy to lure him away. Villa will need to pay a handsome fee of around £70m for his signature, but it seems they are still looking to test Wolves’ resolves by submitting a formal offer.

It would be a blockbuster transfer if the deal goes through.

Bayern Munich’s Mathys Tel is another player who is under consideration, but Villa are likely to face competition from Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur for his signature.
