Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Vitor Pereira has revealed what Matheus Cunha has told him about his future, amid reported interest from Arsenal and Aston Villa.
Cunha has been in fine form this season, and there is speculation that both Arsenal and Villa are keen on the Wolves forward.
According to The Mirror, Cunha is a target for Arsenal, who want to sign a new striker because of the injury to Gabriel Jesus.
The Guardian has reported that Villa are considering a bid for Cunha as they search for a potential replacement for Jhon Duran, who is on his way to the Saudi Pro League.
Wolves boss Pereira has revealed that Cunha has told him that he plans to stay at the club for the rest of the season and help them stave off relegation to the Championship.
Pereira made the revelation after Wolves beat Aston Villa 2-0 at Molineux Stadium in the Premier League on Saturday evening.
Cunha scored the winning goal in the seventh minute of injury time.
It was the 25-year-old Brazil international’s 11th goal in 23 Premier League appearances this season. Cunha has also given four assists.
Pereira told Sky Sports about Cunha: “When we put Cunha as a striker man to man in the last line, we know he can receive a ball, create goals against one or two players.
“He can create a goal from nothing. It means he is a special player. For us, he’s a player that gives us a lot of things.
“I think he’s committed with us. The last conversation that we had, he said I will help the team to be in the Premier League next season.
“At the end of the season, we’ll see. He’s very committed with us to help the team and our team-mates and to help the club.”
Cunha has been arguably the best player for Wolves this season, and the Brazilian deciding to stay at the club is a huge boost to their chances of staying in the Premier League.
The Brazilian has emerged as an important source of goals, and Wolves will need him to continue his impressive form for the rest of the campaign.
Wolves are only two points above the Premier League bottom three at the moment.
Selling Cunha now would badly damage the Wanderers’ chances of retaining their top-flight status for the 2025-26 campaign.
Wolves will take on Blackburn Rovers in the fourth round of the FA Cup next weekend before facing Liverpool at Anfield in the Premier League on 16th February.
