FC Barcelona are looking to reinforce several areas of their team in the next summer transfer window. As was the case last summer, the left wing is once again the position that they want to strengthen with the highest priority.
But this is not the only position in attack that might receive a reinforcement next summer. The Catalans are also looking for a long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski, who is already 36 years of age, and for this purpose, they have been linked with several interesting names in the last few months.
One of these names has been the Lille striker Jonathan David, who is once again proving himself to be one of the most productive strikers in Europe. This season, he has scored 17 goals and provided 5 assists in 26 appearances.
But the factor that made him an attractive option for Barcelona was his contractual situation, as his contract is running out at the end of this season, and he is looking quite unlikely to reach a renewal agreement with his club.
The Blaugranes have been keeping a close eye on his developments, but according to Mundo Deportivo, the Catalans believe that he is a player who does not exactly fit the profile that they are looking for, and thus have cooled their interest in the Canadian.
The Lille striker is a player who performs best when he is afforded space by the opposition defenders. However, in La Liga, most teams look to put on a highly compact defensive structure when playing against Barcelona, and thus, the threat that he poses will be mostly neutralised.
Furthermore, the player himself is looking to take the next step in his career, and sharing the striker spot with Robert Lewandowski might not be an option that is too attractive for him.
