Andreas Christensen is enduring a nightmare season at FC Barcelona. The Danish defender has only played in one match throughout the campaign, the opener against Valencia in August, and has not featured for Hansi Flick’s team since.

Christensen had to undergo surgery in August to address a lingering Achilles tendon issue. Having received medical clearance in January this year, he suffered a calf injury that ruled him out again for a few weeks.

Just as Christensen was preparing for a gradual return, disaster struck again in early March as he suffered a relapse and is yet to resume training with the group.

Barcelona will look to part ways with Christensen

Now, according to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona will try to find a way out for Christensen in the summer transfer window.

The 28-year-old defender’s contract with the Catalans expires in the summer of 2026.

Given his injury woes and the fact that Barcelona are already blessed with riches in the centre-back department, there do not appear to be any plans to offer him a renewal at the moment.

Given that Christensen arrived for free in 2022, any transfer fee that Barça receive for him will be written down as full profit in the books, which would help to improve the Fair Play margin.

Christensen was close to leaving in January

In fact, the report further states that Christensen was already close to leaving Barcelona during the January transfer window.

There had been reports of interest from a Bundesliga club in January while some teams in the Premier League were also looking at him.

However, another injury setback meant that the defender’s exit had to be shelved.

Come summer, though, Barcelona plan to find a way out for Christensen, three years after signing him from Chelsea.
