Inter Milan are considering a move for young Parma and Hungary defender Botond Balogh after a bright start to the Serie A season.

This according to Italian outlet FCInterNews. They report that the 22-year-old has come onto the Nerazzurri’s radar as a possible candidate for the future of their defense.

One way or another, Inter are very likely to sign a defender next summer.

The Nerazzurri are seeking a specific profile in this respect. They want to bring in a player who can hold down the centre of their back three moving into the future.

At the moment, Inter have two main options in that role. These are Francesco Acerbi and Stefan de Vrij.

Acerbi and de Vrij continue to deliver performances of the necessary standard.

However, there is no getting around the fact that both of the two former Lazio defenders are now well into their thirties.

Moreover, both Acerbi and de Vrij are currently on contracts that run out at the end of next June.

Therefore, it is not likely that Inter will keep both Acerbi and de Vrij in the squad past the end of this season.

Rather, the Nerazzurri’s plan would be to retain one of the two veteran defenders. And then sign a younger player who can be their understudy starting next campaign.

According to the outlet, the Nerazzurri see the 22-year-old as having the right style of play.

Inter would prioritize a defender with the physical and tactical attributes to defend the penalty area and mark opposition centre-forwards.

That is the kind of defender that Balogh is.

Moreover, the young Hungarian is now proving himself in Serie A. This is certainly an asset for Inter.

The Nerazzurri have been following Balogh’s performances so far this season since Parma came back up to Serie A, which have impressed them.

As FCIN note, Balogh is not the only Parma player who Inter are currently scouting.

Midfielder Adrian Bernabe has also caught Inter’s eye with his performances for the Emilian club early on in the season, the outlet report.
