Olympique Lyonnais will end their Ligue 1 campaign on Saturday and say goodbye to one of their greatest ever goal scorers in the process.

Le Progrès reports that the club will pay tribute to captain Alexandre Lacazette (33) this weekend, which coincides with their 75th anniversary. As confirmed by the club, he will leave OL at the end of the season.

The 2024 Olympic silver medallist, who was born in Lyon, returned to his childhood club in June 2022. He led them in Ligue 1 goals in each of those seasons, including this one, where he’s netted 13 times heading into the final matchday.

He played his youth career with Les Gones as well, making over 200 appearances and reaching the century mark for goals in his first stint at the club. In between his two stints at Lyon, Lacazette featured in the Premier League for Arsenal, winning the FA Cup with the Gunners in 2019-20.

He was the top goalscorer in Ligue 1 in 2015-15, and was named Arsenal’s Player of the Season during the 2018-19 campaign.

The former Coupe de France winner will go down as the second-highest goalscorer in the history of the men’s team with 199 goals in 390 games across all competitions. The only one to score more at OL was another Lyon-born player, Fleury Di Niallo, who had 222.

Lyon still have an outside chance of qualifying for Europe next season, though Paulo Fonseca’s men need a win on Saturday and hope that either Lille OSC or RC Strasbourg lose.
