The Premier League has ended its Profitability and Sustainability rule (PSR) dispute with Everton, closing a contentious chapter for the Merseyside club.

The dispute originated from Everton’s 2022/23 accounts, where the club had already admitted to breaching PSR regulations by £16.6 million.

Everton were sanctioned twice last season for financial breaches. They were docked ten points – reduced to six on appeal – then two points by the Premier League.

However, unresolved differences regarding the capitalisation of interest payments kept the matter alive. The club has announced that a resolution has been reached.

“Everton can confirm the club has resolved all outstanding Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) charges brought by the Premier League,” read the statement.

“The Premier League has formally discontinued the second part of the PSR complaint for the period ending FY23 and has deemed the club PSR compliant for FY24.”

The Premier League’s decision to discontinue the second part of its complaint effectively absolves Everton of further action concerning financial reporting.

This resolution will relieve the club’s management and fans concerned about potential additional penalties or another prolonged legal battle that could derail their season.

This development allows Everton to focus entirely on their on-pitch performance and long-term financial strategy.

Everton will move to their new Bramley Moore Dock Stadium next season and will not want potential penalties hanging over their head as they enter a new era.

The club recently fired Sean Dyche to rehire David Moyes as manager. He lost his first game in charge.
