Real Madrid are actively exploring the transfer market to bolster their midfield options for the upcoming summer transfer window and according to a report from AS, Atalanta’s Ederson has emerged as a potential target if they fail to secure Martin Zubimendi.

It is no secret that the club is keen on strengthening the squad, particularly in midfield, as they prepare for the future.

While Zubimendi remains the priority, owing to his experience in La Liga and alignment with the club’s strategy to focus on Spanish players, Real Madrid’s management is also considering alternatives.

This approach ensures that they have backup options in case negotiations for Zubimendi do not materialise.

Ederson has caught to eyes

Ederson has caught the attention of Madrid’s scouting team, prompting the first informal discussions with Atalanta to understand the midfielder’s availability. However, securing his signature will be no easy task.

The Brazilian midfielder is under contract with Atalanta until June 2027, and the Italian club is not in a rush to sell him this winter.

A transfer during the summer window seems more realistic, provided interested clubs meet Atalanta’s financial expectations.

Last summer, Atalanta rejected significant offers for Ederson, including bids exceeding the €50 million mark. For any deal to go through, potential suitors would likely need to table an offer close to €60 million.

Such figures are similar to what would be required for Zubimendi’s transfer, showing the level of investment Real Madrid might have to make to secure a top-tier midfielder.

There is plenty of interest

Ederson’s performances have not gone unnoticed across Europe, with several elite clubs showing interest. Atletico Madrid, for instance, reportedly made a €55 million bid last summer but ultimately signed Conor Gallagher instead.

Manchester City have also considered Ederson as a future target, particularly after Rodri’s injury exposed a need for additional midfield depth. Meanwhile, Manchester United are keeping close tabs on the Brazilian.

At present, Atletico Madrid appear to be Real Madrid’s main competition for Ederson’s signature. The coming months will determine whether the Merengues can secure either Zubimendi or Ederson to reinforce their midfield for the long term.
