Chelsea loaned Joao Felix out to AC Milan in January, just 6 months after signing him permanently.
Many people said it was an odd transfer at the time, and were proven right pretty quickly. He didn’t play much, got unhappy, pushed to leave, and was sent to Serie A. He’s not done well there, despite a strong start, Milan are struggling, and now Fabrizio Romano is reporting that the Italian side have no interest in signing him permanently.
That means he comes back to Chelsea in the summer to be our problem all over again. And every time he tries and fails to succeed somewhere, the pool of teams interested and the amount they’re willing to offer will only grow smaller.
Aston Villa were interested in January, but after they were unable to land Felix they moved for Marco Asensio who has been a big hit for them
Fabrizio Romano on Joao Felix’s future.
This is the problem – no sooner had we solved the perennial Romelu Lukaku and Kepa Arrizabalaga problems than we’ve found ourselves in a fresh set of difficulties with a new set of players. Felix, Raheem Sterling, and plenty of others are signed to big contracts with no real space for them at Chelsea.
It will take some serious skills from the sporting directors to juggle things around enough to find a move for these guys without taking a serious financial hit.
The fact that Felix is a spare part just 6 months into his 7 year deal is pretty scandalous, and he could end up being a very expensive mistake. Last night he only appeared as a sub for Milan, and if his minutes continue to dry up we’re really going to be in a tricky situation when the window opens.
