FC Barcelona are currently focusing on performing to the best of their abilities this season. So far under Hansi Flick, the Catalan giants have looked like a great side who are yet to find their best version. Despite still being in development, Barcelona are already a team to be reckoned with.
However, there must simultaneously be one eye that is kept on the near-distant future. After all, no player has a career span that is never-ending, and future possibilities always have to be addressed ahead of time. This is especially true for Barcelona, who also have a financial burden to always worry about.
One name that is of particular interest to Barça is Jonathan David, a Canadian striker who currently plays for Ligue 1 side Lille. Given that he is still young at the age of 24, he still has a lot of years at the top level left to offer and has performed at a great level so far.
Moreover, as highlighted by SPORT, an even bigger update has now arrived that could act as the perfect signal for Barcelona to make a move. The Canadian forward recently confessed that he has always been a fan of the Catalan club, and that he dreams of playing for them:
“Barça has always been the team I supported growing up. When you grow up cheering for a team, it’s a dream to play for them.”
This kind of explicit mentioning of another club and a direct statement like this could potentially be massive. It has led to players like Joao Felix managing to join La Blaugrana, and given that David is already a player they find to be interesting, this could set a lot of things in motion.
However, signing the Ligue 1 forward may not end up being too straightforward. While it is true that his contract will expire in the summer of 2025 and that he is free to negotiate with any club of his choice after the new year begins, it has also led to other teams such as Bayern Munich now being interested in him as well.
Yet, with the kind of statement he recently gave, his preference seems to be clear as day. Now it is all up to Barcelona and how they decide to go about things because they know that they have the player’s approval, and a free transfer would be ideal for them, it all just depends on the variables that they would need to see out.
