Barcelona loanee Vitor Roque has emerged as a top transfer priority for Brazilian club Palmeiras, who are keen to finalise his signing before the first transfer window of the year in South America closes on February 28.

According to a report from SPORT, Palmeiras are pushing to simplify what is currently a three-party negotiation into a direct deal with Barcelona.

At the moment, the operation involves three clubs—Barcelona, Real Betis, and Palmeiras. However, the Brazilian side aims to remove Betis from the equation to negotiate directly with the Catalan giants.

In order for this to happen, Real Betis would need to step aside and allow Roque to leave without demanding any financial compensation in return..

It is very complicated

From the Brazilian club’s perspective, Roque has struggled for prominence at Betis. They argue that Betis have already made decisions that indicate they are not counting on the young forward.

Palmeiras believe that Betis should be willing to let go of Roque without financial demands, as they would benefit from removing his wages from their books for the remaining four months of the season.

It must be noted that when Barcelona loaned the Brazilian forward to Betis last summer, it was agreed that the deal would last for a year, with an option to extend it for another season.

Additionally, Betis have a purchase option of €25 million for 80% of the player’s economic rights at the end of each season.

There are uncertainties

If Betis refuse to step aside and instead insist on financial compensation, Palmeiras’ hopes of securing Roque this month could be completely blocked.

The Brazilian club is aware that Barcelona will likely demand a transfer fee similar to what they negotiated with Betis, ensuring that they do not incur financial losses on a player.

This is because they signed him for €30 million, with an additional €31 million in potential add-ons—none of which have been paid so far.

Palmeiras are still optimistic

Despite these obstacles, there is growing optimism within Palmeiras. The negotiations between all involved parties are being conducted in a respectful and professional manner.

The Brazilian club has a good relationship with Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, dating back to his time as a player agent and intermediary, which could help smoothen the discussions.

With the transfer deadline fast approaching, Palmeiras remain hopeful that they can reach an agreement and secure the signing of Roque, strengthening their squad for the upcoming season.
