Barcelona defender Eric Garcia is enjoying a fantastic spell in the second half of the season.

The former Manchester City man played a pivotal role in their commanding 4-1 victory over Sevilla. He sealed the win with a well-placed header, showcasing his ability in aerial duels.

For what it is worth, the defender is making the most of the trust placed in him by Hansi Flick and is likely to see more playing time following Ronald Araujo’s unfortunate ankle injury.

Another speciality goal

Garcia’s headed goal against Sevilla continues his impressive record in this aspect of the game. Remarkably, all nine of his professional goals have come from headers.

Four of these were scored for Barcelona, while the remaining five were netted during his stint with Girona, highlighting his skill in this crucial area of play.

Interestingly, Garcia’s first professional goal was also at the Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium against Sevilla. During the 2022-23 La Liga season, he contributed the final goal in a 3-0 victory for Barça.

While at Girona, he further cemented his reputation as a threat in the air, scoring five headed goals. His notable targets included Granada and Cadiz, Alaves, Athletic Club, and Villarreal.

Continuing the trend at Barcelona

Returning to Barcelona this season, Garcia continued his scoring streak. He headed home a goal in the Copa del Rey opener against Barbastro (4-0) and played a crucial role in the thrilling Champions League comeback against Benfica, which ended 5-4.

His recent goal against Sevilla marked his third of the season, making him Barcelona’s top-scoring defender.

He shares this honour with Jules Kounde, who has also scored three times and has surpassed Inigo Martinez, who sits at two goals.

With his knack for scoring and growing influence on the pitch, Garcia has become a reliable figure in Barcelona’s backline, showing both defensive prowess and an eye for goal during set-pieces.
