Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka has given fans reason to be excited over his return to action from a serious hamstring injury, posting on Instagram from the club's warm weather training camp.
Saka has been sidelined since December after undergoing hamstring surgery. He has travelled with the Gunners squad to Dubai and has been pictured working in the gym in officially published images, but is yet to rejoin the main group for training sessions.
A post on Saka's individual Instagram account included several pictures, accompanied by a single emoji as the caption. The sand timer implied his return might not be too far away.
The 23-year-old is reported to be targeting a return to action in early March, with Arsenal to be in action in the Champions League last 16 in the first week of next month. Aside from both legs of that European tie, Arsenal will also face Manchester United and Chelsea in the Premier League.
Prior to getting injured, Saka was on course to have one of the all-time great Premier League seasons. In 16 appearances up to Christmas, the England international had laid on ten assists in the competition, halfway to the single-season record jointly held by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne.
After missing seven league fixtures and potentially at least three more, as well as likely requiring time to get back up to full speed, the likelihood of Saka matching that record is considerably diminished.
Saka's absence had handed teenage prodigy Ethan Nwaneri a clear opportunity in the Arsenal first-team, which will only be further cemented now that Gabriel Martinelli has also suffered an injury. The Brazilian suffered his own hamstring issue during the midweek defeat to Newcastle United and is already expected to miss at least a month while he recovers.
